A woman's grief (Songtext)

Heute zur Abwechslung mal etwas angelsächsisches:

It was once in a house at the seaside
where a woman lived in grief.
She was sitting every evening at the window,
for her husband went to war.

Every time when she looked through that window
at the cold and stormy sea,
she was hoping for a glimpse of the freighter
that would bring her soldier back.

But the years went by so quickly
and he never ever came back.
She became old and grey while her waiting,
but she never lost her hope.

Well the years passed by even further,
so the woman did as well.
She was buried near the gravestone of her husband,
though she never left her house.

Every night you can hear her crying.
Every night you see her stare
through that window as a pale white specter,
thus the house kept empty since.

People rumor she will stay there haunting
in this cursed old ruinous house.
She will keep staring through that window,
till her man lies next to her.
